So far I have achieved a real sense of progression in my work.

I am exploring beneath the surface and have shifted towards the specific theme of mental illness that resides 'beneath the surface' of their outward personality.

So far I have decided to stray from my other ideas such as hidden treasure or burried alive. From here I decided to explore artists that may be of interest to me, specifically Seung Hwan-Oh and his works. I took two photoshoots, and believe my initial shoot was the most successful as it was the most visually interesting one.

I made attempts to replicate his  work digitally using photoshop, and then made further attempts  using physical mediums.

I have also introduced a new artist, Edward Honaker, into my work. This has allowed me to create a wider variety of results. This is beneficial as I do not want my work to be monotonous

Action Plan

 PHOTO-SHOOTS:

1) wrapped face/plain background

2)Wrapped face/patterned background -> reference magritte

3)Refined shoot-Introduce Munch's work - "The Scream"                    - 'Make connections with'Swirled Background'

                  - Composition/position of subject (holding face)

I have decided to carry on this idea of a covered face untill I have fully exhausted it. I will try to take a shoot borrowing heavily from techinques shown by Munch in the scream, with swirling the background into a blaring and discomforting swirled mass. I will also attempt another borrowing techniques of Honaker more again, trying to re-create the patterned background blending with the model to create a camouflaged effect. I will try to further explore this, perhapse attemoting to have someone seemingly ripping the cloth from their face to escape.

Action Plan : Stage 2

PHOTO-SHOOTS

I have been researching people who use the bag motif that Magritte often used, checking to see how other people have adopted the imagery and used it in different ways that may be useful to explore to delve further into my theme of mental illness. I wish to try having two models with covered faces, and two shoots with one having the coverings linked in a sort of knot , and another where the masks seem to be pulling them away from eachother. I will also try to incorporate more patterned sheets as Honaker's use of it was interesting as it blended in well with the home environment he had chosen, however if shooting outside ect I will have to be selective about my use of this.

i have made some sketches to act as a rough visualisation as to what I intend my next few images to look like in terms of models, postioning and their actions within the photos.
